Spontaneous road trip to San Diego

Every year Maggie and I go to one of the largest photography conference’s and trade shows in America. We always tend to go out a few days before it starts, first I always find it’s cheaper to fly on Wednesday’s 😉 It also gives us some adventure time. Last year we took a few small trips to visit TV show locations like Pawn Stars, Counts Customs, and just to wander Las Vegas. This year, being the crazy kids we are we decided to jump in the rental (a sweet Chevy Sonic, more like a go cart 😉 and go to California. I have never been to California except to connect flights at LAX. It has also been on my bucket list to drive the Pacific Coast Highway. After a few facebook posts and google map visit’s we decided on San Diego.

A quick trip to Target to get some supplies (i.e. bread, peanut butter, and a case of water) we were on our way to the Gold Coast.

Compared to Connecticut the views are amazing and sooooo wide open. Let me tell you driving over 300 miles in one direction without hitting a pothole was like a super dream come true.

We stayed at an amazing friends house, and they highly recommended The Mission for breakfast. Holy Moly were they on point. This was the best cinnamon raisin french toast I ever had and just writing this I’m drooling for more.

After full bellies we set our sites on Balboa Park. Maggie visited here a few years ago while attending a conference and had to take me to show me all of the amazing sites it had to offer as well as the tranquil enviroment. She told me when she was there years ago that she thought it was the perfect place for me and I think she was right 🙂 Now who needs some sessions in Cali so we can begin our move?

After our relaxing stroll around the park we headed down to Coronado, Maggie and I were hoping to see some Navy Seals training but no luck. We did however find out that they train at weird hours… so people like us can not go watch them train, and eat Ice Cream while doing it lol.  We pulled into a public lot at Silver Strand State Beach and were in Awww. I quickly threw on a pair of shorts and ran to the ocean. I LOVE the ocean!! There were kite surfers and it was….. just perfect. I fell in love immediately. While my toes were in the water I closed my eyes and envisioned living here and being able to see this beauty every day.

As our spontaneous road trip continued, we drove up the Pacific Coast Highway and stopped at a few amazing locations like the Gas Lamp Quarter, La Jolla, Del Mar, and a few others.
